“Let’s arm ourselves and you all go ahead!” a famous Italian proverbial phase says… And unfortunately it’s like this…!
After almost 70 years since the “Second World War”, the specter of a new total war once again threatens the entire World…!
After almost 70 years of “International Organizations”, the specter of a new total war hovers over our heads again…!
After almost 70 years of “Peace”, “Diplomacy” and “International Relations”, the specter of a new total war once again indicates an enemy to face, an enemy to fight, an enemy to defeat…!
After almost 70 years of “socio-economic development”, the specter of a new total war forces us once again to prepare for rearmament, to prepare the battlefield, to prepare the population for war…
… Yes, for war…
… A war that threatens to expand its borders… A war that threatens to affect many other States… A war that threatens to get apocalyptic tones…!
Therefore we might ask: but how was all this possible? How did we get to this point? What happened to Organizations, Diplomacy and International Relations?
Well… unfortunately the answer to these questions cannot be contained in a few lines… since there are so many interests at stake, so many States involved, so many personal profits…!
However, some global dynamics are unfortunately easily identifiable… and this is because: on the one hand, Organizations, Diplomacy and International Relations do not fully perform their functions; while on the other hand, the leaders of individual States and International Institutions tend to assume an ever greater weight in steering decisions towards positions belonging to specific directions to follow.
And this is why for a while a warlike feeling has been crossing our cities… clouding our clarity… annihilating our humanity… undermining our civilization…!
And this is why for a while the famous proverbial phrase saying: “Let’s arm ourselves and you all go ahead!” seems to have been echoing in the air.
A phrase that embodies a profound sadness… A phrase that underlines a deleterious managerial inability… A phrase that indicates a handful of people capable of shaping the destiny of entire generations… A phrase that refers to total, nefarious and sometimes irreversible events…!
For this reason we might ask again: but then could it be done differently? Would there be other ways to avoid this epilogue? Could Organizations, Diplomacy and International Relations be valorized?
In general, everything is perfectible and in fact the actions to be taken could be different.
First of all, “collective well-being” could be set as the primary objective to be pursued in order to achieve a balance, while too often is instead compromised by personal, private or sectorial interests.
Furthermore, the role of the “International Organizations” responsible for maintaining global “peace”, “security” and “development” could be highlighted, while too often is instead crushed by the weight of individual member States.
Finally, “International Diplomacy” could be valorized as a fundamental tool in the resolution of international disputes, while too often is instead confined to a mere rhetorical exercise.
These actions could therefore lead to the creation of multiple “International Relations” between the States involved which would thus be interconnected both politically and economically, so as to avoid any armed clashes moved by sudden impulses of the moment.
Only in this way we could “perhaps” ward off the specter of a new total war which should in fact be considered as “ultima ratio” of the light of reason which instead seems to be fading in the darkness of madness…!
